3 Different Types Of Meditation - Sensational Secrets To Samadhi Revealed

In this article we are going to take a quick look at 3 different types of mediation, and discuss how you can easily and effortlessly incorporate these into your own meditative mindset. Insight:


Again, in the practice of Vipassana, Insight is the next step up for advanced meditators, and frankly speaking, is the goal of the practice. Insight meditation is more for transformative breakthrough, than it is for bliss, in my experience..:-)


Mantra:


Maybe the easiest way to get started with meditation. Popularized by TM (transcendental meditation), its focus is a word, a saying or an object that can tame the mind into a state of ever-present clarity. My own Kabalistic practice uses a Mantra, and I find this incredibly powerful in transforming and setting my mind for BOTH incredible insights, and concentration as outlined above!

Introduction to Vipassana Meditation

Vipassana is an insight into the true nature of things; seeing things as they are. The path that leads to this insight or realization is awareness or mindfulness. It is exclusively found in no other religion rather than Buddhism. In this meditation, four objects are considered for concentration of mind: body, feelings, thoughts and mental states. Vipassana practice is to use these four objects for the development of concentration, mindfulness and insight or understanding of yourself and the world around you.


It offers the most simple, direct and effective method for training the mind to meet daily tasks and problems and to achieve the highest aim: liberation.


It is safe for all types of characters and a harmless way to train the mind. You can use this method anywhere at anytime, in a busy office or in the quiet of a peaceful night.


The task is to develop awareness or mindfulness. Awareness is paying bare attention to an object. This means you simply observe an object without judging it or thinking about it. Awareness is simply observing of giving close attention without making any judgement of thinking


Target of Vipassana meditation


To achieve insight, so that you can understand the real nature of anything. Physical and mental healing is merely a byproduct of this meditation.


Who will need this? a) People who think they are sufferers because of relational problems with friends, family, colleagues and society; b) People who want to purify themselves and want to start new lives; c) People who want to heal their migraine and similar diseases d) People with mental problems like aggressiveness, lack of confidence, phobia and other stuffs.


Remember one thing! If you are not a sufferer, if you don't want a change, you will not realize the purpose of this meditation. This meditation will give you insight, the cause of suffering will be revealed and mind will be peaceful ever since. If you want to do meditation only for supernatural purposes, Vipassana meditation cannot help you to achieve this. You will need other meditations that build up super concentration.


Requisites of a meditator The five most important requisites for a meditator who wants to practice Vipassana meditation for the achievement of supreme bliss are as follows: a) A qualified teacher b) A firm determination c) Good discipline d) Real honesty e) Persistent diligence


a) A qualified instructor A qualified instructor is a person who has himself practiced Vipassana meditation thoroughly and has acquired a very sound experience of meditation. The meditator should see and relate to the instructor very often about his experience of the meditation. During the interview, the instructor can guide the meditator on the correct method of meditation. If the meditator is discouraged due to lack of progress, the instructor must give him some words of encouragement.


If such instructor is not available, then you must follow the guidance given here.


b) A firm determination Not all meditators have firm determination to achieve insight. With insight, the mental impurities of greed, hatred and ignorance can be uprooted. It is not an easy task to achieve these insights. Only meditators with firm determination will have the ability to attain mental purification.


c) Good discipline For best results, it is recommended that one seeks training at a proper meditation center. From the time the lessons in meditation begin until a meditator leaves the center, he will have practically no time to attend to external activities.


Those who enter into a meditation center usually get up very early in the morning and practice meditation for many hours. This insufficiency of sleep, under normal circumstances, may affect the health of a person. But it does not affect the practicing meditator, because of his mental concentration.


d) Real honesty In describing his experiences to the instructor, the meditator must be truthful. He must tell only the facts, good or bad, which the meditator has definitely experienced. If he does not have mental concentration, or if he loses his confidence in meditation, he must reveal it. There are some meditators who have learnt about meditation either from others or from books. During the interview with the instructor, they may relate these facts as if they are their own. This kind of untruthful dealings must be avoided at any cost. If the meditator does not tell the truth to the instructor, the latter will not be in a position to help him. The meditator must relate only what he has experienced during meditation and not what he imagines he has experienced. He must therefore be able to examine himself mindfully.


e) Persistent diligence As has been pointed above, the task of uprooting desire, hatred, and ignorance is not an easy task. It requires unflagging effort, patience, strong determination, devotion and understanding of the real purpose of the meditation.

Meditation Techniques That Anybody Can Use

Sometimes those of us "regular people" get intimidated about the idea of learning meditation techniques even if they will do us a lot of good. For a lot of us, when we think of meditation techniques, we get an image of a white haired guru sitting on top of a mountain, not of an ordinary run of the mill person like you and I.


But we know that meditation techniques can do even everyday people like us some good. That is because people that you know who use meditation techniques tend to be calmer, more at ease, relaxed and able to handle stress better than those that don't. So it makes you think, maybe there is something to meditation techniques worth looking into.


The good news is that most of those meditation techniques that those "gurus" use are based on some very practical and easy things that we can do, without special equipment and even without a huge amount of special training to get the simple results that a lot of people work hard to achieve. So what we all need is meditation techniques that anybody can use.


Meditation Technique #1 - It's all in the breathing.


It may seem ridiculously easy but much of the fuss about meditation technique is all about breathing. You may have already noticed that as you get more upset or excited or agitated, your breathing becomes shorter and you breathe faster. When that happens, you get less oxygen to your blood, your heart beats faster and your mind, with less blood, gets upset more easily.


So by slowing down your breathing, you can reverse the effect. You take the outcome and make it the cause. Instead of letting your breathing react to how you feel, you control your breathing to change how you feel. It is as simple as taking a few moments and closing your eyes and concentrating on breathing ten or so deep breaths in and out.


As you do so, think about those breaths and nothing else for a moment. Think about the air going in and then going out again. It is as though you are breathing on purpose. The outcome of this meditation technique will be your heart will slow down, your blood will get more oxygen and before long, you are calmer and able to react to things much more serenely. You have taken control over the situation.


Meditation Technique #2 - A moment of peace and quiet.


Life has a way of taking over and running us instead of us running it. Work gets hectic, family life full of joys and challenges and you have days where everything seems to go crazy all at once. There is another simple meditation technique you can use to return control of the day to you.


The gurus who use the advanced meditation techniques know that they should have a place where they can retreat to enter into a more contemplative state of mind. So too, you can start to look around your various environments and select a place where you can get a moment of peace and quiet to do your breathing and gather yourself to get control over the chaos that sometimes your day turns into. While in that quiet place, don't just reflect on how bad things are, slow your breathing, use your ability to reflect and calm yourself and slowly get back to that inner tranquility that will give you control. One meditation technique that people use is to imagine a quiet lake inside their soul. You want that lake to be still, the surface quiet, the air pure and cool, the environment serene and at rest. Then when the world around you is going mad, your tranquil lake is never disturbed.


Meditation Technique #3 - Self Talk


You are what you think. And how you talk to yourself when you are using your meditation techniques can bring you up and calm you if you know what to say. Now don't panic at the idea of talking to yourself. Self-talk is a long established meditation technique that you too can use to get your composure in the midst of your busy world.


Again, as we mentioned above, you have to let that self-talk be positive and reassuring. Remember the good of your life and your feelings when you were in control. There are other key meditation techniques that you can use that fall under the category of self-talk that can calm you and put you in a serene state of mind fairly quickly. Remember a time when you had perfect control and try to become that person. Have a common location that is always serene for you and go to that place in your mind for a moment and gather your thoughts there. Reflect on the things in your life that give you power and self worth. Let those things talk to you. Slowly this positive self-talk can do its magic and lift you back to a stable place and give you peace.


Now this is not to say that formal meditation techniques are not of value. They certainly are. As you take advantage of these down to earth meditation techniques we have talked about here today, you will start to feel the benefits in how you sleep, how you react to stress and even in your health.

Then you can start to look into some more formalized meditation techniques that will take the simple steps and take you to the next level. Maybe you want to try yoga out. Maybe you practiced it before and want to start again. If you want to do yoga, you probably want to find a yoga class. You can use the following methods to find a local yoga class.


Local Gym - In addition to their weight rooms and cardio machines, many gyms offer a large assortment of fitness classes. Some gyms offer brochures that list and describe all of their different classes. Nonetheless, you can more easily find out whether or not a local gym offers any yoga classes simply by calling them and asking. When you call, remember to ask for the price. Try calling more than one gym and writing down the different prices and other details. That way you can choose the best class for you. You can usually find a whole bunch of gyms in any given community, so you most likely can find a few that have yoga classes.


Yoga Studio - Yoga studios are basically places dedicated to practicing yoga. They are to yoga practice what a martial arts studio is to martial arts. Depending on where you live, you may not be able to find a yoga studio nearby. Even if you find one or more, they may not meet your budget or your needs.


Craigslist - You can read and post local classified ads on craigslist for free. If you do not see anything on there about yoga classes, post a classified ad asking about yoga classes in your neighborhood. You can also use this method to find a yoga partner, but be very careful meeting anyone from the internet. Craiglist lets you remain anonymous when posting ads.


Ask Your Friends - If you know other people who practice yoga, ask them where they practice yoga. This will not only help you find places that offer classes, but it will also let you get immediate first-hand information about those places. You can ask the person if they recommend the classes. You can also ask friends and other people you know about yoga classes. Even if they do not practice yoga, they may happen to know of local places that offer yoga classes.


Before looking for yoga classes, you want to figure out what you want out of the classes. Figure out how much you are willing to spend. Also, figure out what type of class you want. For example, do you want one that focuses on the spiritual aspects of yoga, or do you simply want an exercise class?


Some gyms and studios may want you to sign up for a long-running class and pay upfront. Avoid doing this unless you have tried the class out, especially if you are new to yoga. Top 3 Meditation Techniques

Undoubtedly by now news of the vast benefits of meditation must have reached you. Study after study have been empirically validating what the ancient masters have been saying for generations, there is nothing quite like meditation. Meditation is good for your mind, body and soul, but what kind of meditation should you practice in order to extract these wonderful benefits? That is the topic of this article.

Mantra meditation forms the heart of the Hindu faith and it's effectiveness has also been proven by centuries of successful application. In mantra meditation, you pick a mantra that suits you and then repeat it mentally or out loud continuously. This technique, just like Zen Meditation, will help develop your concentration, mental focus and awareness.


One of the best mantra meditations is So Hum Mantra Meditation. In this version, as you inhale you think the sound Soooo, and as you exhale you think the sound Hummm. So Hum means I am That. It implies that you and divinity are one. This mantra is great for opening the heart center and allowing unconditional love to flow.


3. Chakra Meditation Technique:


The third best meditation technique for extracting and enjoying the vast benefits of meditation is Chakra Meditation. There are several kinds of chakra meditation and here I will go over the most used ones.


Chakras are considered energy vortexes which when balanced lead to you being balanced physically and emotionally. The various chakra meditation techniques looks to open and balance these vortexes using the attributes that the chakras have. Here are two commonly used methods to open and balance the chakras.


1. Concentration on the Chakra Point: The first method you can use to activate a chakra is by concentrating on its physical location in the body. As you concentrate on the location, you bring the energy of awareness there, which then works to open that energy center.


2. Chakra Mantra Meditation: Associated with each chakra is a seed sound, or beej mantra. Chanting this should is a direct and powerful way to open and balance that particular center. One word of caution with chakra meditation is that one should not open these centers too forcefully or quickly. Slow and steady is the name of the game.

Vipassana Meditation - The Most Fundamental Technique of Meditation

One the oldest techniques of meditation, Vipassana was discovered by Buddha about 2500 years ago. At that time he used to live in the northern part of India. Buddha helped millions of people to come out of their miseries by teaching them this wonderful technique. Meaning of the word Vipassana is to "see things as they are."


It is one of the most fundamental techniques as it eradicates the suffering by eradicating the cause of the suffering which lies in the deepest parts of the mind. It focuses on the deep and continuous mind-body interactions where the life of the body i.e. sensations, become and condition the life of the mind. We are conditioned in such a way that we react with aversions whenever we experience negative sensations and react with craving whenever we experience positive sensations. It seems obvious but this is what drives the unfinishing cycle of misery and unhappiness.


Vipassana meditation is totally non-sectarian and non-religious by all means and is equally beneficial for people of all ages including children and elders. During the time of Buddha millions of people practiced it in north India. It also spread to different parts of Asia including China, Sri Lanka and South East Asia. It continued in the tradition of Buddha for about 500 years but was lost after that in all parts of the world including India. But for all these 25 centuries it was preserved in its pure form by a line of teacher in Burma, present day Myanmar. It was reintroduced to India again after 2000 years where hundreds and thousands of people have again started practising it as it is very effective in reducing suffering and helping people in getting out of the miseries of the daily life. * Sit in a comfortable cross legged position. Use a cushion to help you be comfortable as you are going to sit for at least 20 minutes if possible. If you cannot sit cross-legged then sit up on a chair.


* Elongate your spine upwards and bring your chin in slightly, like a soldier at attention.


* Have your eyes half open with an unfocused gaze on the floor in front of you or close them if that helps you concentrate better.


* Bring your hands to your lap and place them in the cosmic mudra. To do this rest your right hand on your lap, then rest your left hand on top of it and have your fingers overlap. Now bring the thumb tips together thus forming an oval frame.


* Once you take this position you should not move at all for the duration of the meditation.


* Now bring you attention to your breath without trying to manipulate it in any way, just become aware of its flow. Spend a few minutes just observing it closely till it starts to become regular and relaxed.


* At this point begin counting your breath. Count an inhalation as one, then the exhalation as 2 and continue to count your breaths until you reach 10. At which point return to 1 with the next inhalation. If at any point you get caught in a mental story line and loose your count, gently, without passing any judgment, return to 1 and start over. That's it, continue for the duration of the meditation.

So Hum literally means "I AM THAT" and is the essence of the teachings of Non-Duality in Hinduism and Buddhism.

How to Do So Hum Mantra Meditation Technique:


* Sit in a comfortable cross legged position. Use a cushion to help you be comfortable as you are going to sit for at least 20 minutes if possible. If you cannot sit cross-legged then sit up on a chair.


* Elongate your spine upwards and bring your chin in slightly, like a soldier at attention.


* Place your hands in Gyan Mudra. Which is thumb and index finger lightly meeting, wrists resting gently on the knees and palms facing upward. The other 3 fingers are extended.


* Try to remain as still as possible.


* Next inhale slowly while saying the sound "Sooooo" mentally and then slowly exhale while silently saying the sound "Hummm".


* If thoughts interfere simply acknowledge them and return your attention to the mantra. Continue on for the duration of the meditation, which can again be 20 minutes or more.

It's true when many traditional and alternative medicines describe breathing as the very essence of existing. Breathing is one of the primary rhythms we see in life which include sleep awake, birth and death, light and dark.


With this in mind, it's no wonder that significant studies have been done to examine the role breathing has on aspects of our life such as health, emotional well being, relationships and the state of society in general.


In yoga, the breath is known as a rather unifying principle called prana, a wide-reaching energy that can bridge body, mind and spirit together in a harmony that is the basis of yoga and meditation. Those who practice yoga believe that this state of harmony is natural and that there are many aspects of life that pull apart our inner harmony. Purpose: Beginning a Mindful Meditation without a Meditation Cushion or Meditation Chair or Meditation Stool is okay for about 10 minutes. If you are enjoying longer meditations sitting for a long time can become uncomfortable. You can experience better meditations with the use of a meditation aid such as a stool, chair or cushion.


The Meditation Cushion is used to alleviate pressure on the bum/butt/botty. It will help make for a more comfortable meditation. It helps avoid strain on the ankles and knees. It will bring about greater flexibility of postures, by bringing the heels and knees closer to the body. It gives you more support to be able to tilt the pelvis and therefore a greater chance of improved posture and a straighter spine.


The Meditation Chair or Meditation Stool is used to raise the meditation subject off the ground. The stool or chair is an alternative to the Meditation Cushion. With most Meditation stools and chairs the seating area is slightly inclined which helps tilt the pelvis and helps the spine adopt a more natural position. The result of this is great for internal organs around the stomach and you will enjoy a deeper more relaxed breathing technique.


Styles and Varieties of chairs/stools: Meditation Stools come in the following formats: Toadstool (i.e. one central column, also called a T-Stool). Collapse-able (i.e. the two legs collapse for ease of storage/transport). Fixed Leg (typically two fixed legs either side). Occasionally called a Seiza stool (from Kendo).


Naming of products: Meditation Cushions come in the following formats: Zafu, Zabuton, Mountain Seat, Seifu, Kabu, Travel Zafu, Moon Cushion, Mountain Cushion, Support Cushion and Travel Cushion.


Sizes: Meditation stools are typically about 200mm off the floor at one side and 150mm on the other (a 50mm incline). The size of the seated area is typically 550mm x 150mm. Meditation Cushions such as the Zafu are typically 350mm diameter. Typically round but my analysis shows, and as the naming suggests above wedge shapes, crescent shapes and rectangle shapes are also common. Round cushions are typically 200mm deep. Rectangular cushions are typically 200mm deep and approx 750mm x 450mm (LxW)


Colours: Timber products are produced largely in natural timber finishes of Oak, Ash, Wych Elm, Bamboo. Some benches are painted and finished with Om simples or other yoga/ken-do/Buddhist (or whatever spirituality) related signage/decals. Cushions are coloured in Black, Dark, Navy, Maroon, Brown, Cinnamon, Olive, Sand, Cream and Magnolia.


Fillings:
Kapok (good filling, will not collapse after many, many uses) (Source: Typically harvested from a Tree native to Mexico and America. A light, bouncy/buoyant and resilient fibre. Buckwheat (good filling, will not collapse after many, many uses) (Source: Comes from a plant, the hulls are used as the filling in a variety of upholstered products as they are durable, a natural product). Visco Elastic Foam (Similar to the 'memory foam' we see advertised everywhere these days. Half Buckwheat/Half Kapok Cotton/Cotton Drill Organic Quallofil - Largely synthetic product.
Sourcing of product: If you are buying a stool or chair made from Timber, you may wish to consider a product that is sourced from sustainable woodland. Material Source (e.g. Softwood, Hardwood, UK, USA, Asia) Meditation stools and chairs can be made of Ash,Wych Elm, Oak, Radiata pine. Ash is a hardwood with a nice finish, Wych Elm has a beautiful appearance. You can also find stools made of Bamboo.


Quality of materials: Quality of products vary considerably. Things to look for include: Double stitching of fabrics. Hardwood is a very durable material and as such will withstand knocks, bumps and scratches. If your on the heavier side, no problem here either. Brass Ironmongery (hinges, screws) on those with moving parts, will serve you well. Quality, durable fabrics such as a heavy grade cotton is a must for longevity.


Quality of design: Quality of design varies, some designs such as the Seiza will suit smaller people although you can find custom made stools and cushions from a variety of vendors on the web (try eBay).


Standard of finish: Meditation Stool: Stain, Caranuba, beeswax furniture polish or Varnish can be applied to a stool, however for a more rustic look you may wish to opt for no finish (apart from sanded that is, avoid those nasty splinters). With the trend for non lead products, you may wish to consider a finish that is of non-lead oil. From my experience I'd hedge around $70 for a decent cushion and approx $90 for a decent meditation chair or meditation stool. UK prices : approx £35 for the Cushion and £45 - £50 for the stool/chair.


Prices: Prices vary considerably and there is a market starting from $20 for a basic cushion, $70 - $90 for a basic stool/seat/chair. Of course you can make your own and a quick search of the web will reveal some simple drawings, plans and kits to assemble or fabricate your own. (only advisable if you have carpentry/joinery/machine shop skills). This is just my opinion and from my research.


Other things to consider: Storage, Handles, Carry Bag, Zipper/Press Studs, Ease of Washing/Cleaning, adding a cushion to your meditation stool for increased comfort. With a Meditation stool look for wide opening legs that don't fold easily when in use (ouch). If you are to be carrying or moving the stool around alot, you may wish to consider a light-weight design. Consider if you get an instruction leaflet, a care and maintenance guide or a contact number for after sales support/care (should anything go wrong).  The main thing to consider...Comfort!


Other uses: Meditation Stools and Meditation Cushions are not only for meditators. You'll find that anyone who kneels a lot may get some benefit. Calligraphers, Meditators, Musicians, Clergy, Craftspeople, Martial Arts/Ken-do specialists, Nurses, Health care professionals, administration support people and Rieki practitioners.

Common Mistakes And Misunderstandings About Yoga?


Yoga is a very popular form of exercising and spiritual balancing, but it is also very often understood by a lot of people. This is almost inevitable when you consider the incredible popularity of Yoga as a discipline and the many different strands that Yoga has. Quite often people have experience with one type of Yoga but not another, and as such they will base their overall impression of Yoga on what they have seen. It is like people basing their impression on Germans on the most famous German they know - Adolf Hitler, or more recently the portrayal of George Bush internationally as the only example of an American anyone knows. The truth is that Yoga can be very different depending on who you learn it from and how they perceive Yoga. This article looks at learning yoga for beginners and some of the common misconceptions therein.


Misconception Number One: Yoga is a form of exercise.


Well yes it is, but so is walking. I can walk from my couch to my table and I can hardly claim to have done my exercise for the day. The truth is that exercise is just the beginning of what yoga is. It's closer to a combination of exercise, physiotherapy, psychology and spirituality all rolled into one. As you come to master Yoga you will need to become more and more mentally strong, and most importantly disciplined. If you can discipline yourself to do regular Yoga sessions, and maintain your discipline to do each pose for the prescribed time, and do it properly, then you will naturally become a very disciplined and organised person. For some people this transcends to a spiritual level because they are so efficient and clearing their thoughts while meditating.


Misconception Number Two: Yoga is for Hippies.


As previously mentioned Yoga can be a very spiritual experience if you become good enough at clearing your thoughts and concentrating whilst performing the exercises. But you certainly do not have to begin with any spiritual belief. Yoga believes in aligning the body and the mind and the spirit through achieving inner balance. What that means to you is probably going to depend entirely on what your beliefs already are. For some people it will be a spiritually freeing experience, for others it will be an effective way of distressing and achieving a level of calmness of thought. Still others will claim that these things are one and the same.


Misconception Number Three: Yoga is a fad.


Recently there have been some very hyped up Yoga courses making big claims about what Yoga can achieve. These are easy to associate with other 'fad' exercise crazes. However Yoga is not something new and is based in documents that are hundreds of years old which describe exercises and poses that were probably being performed for generations before that. An individual style of Yoga may come and go, but as long as people are still stretching before a game of football then Yoga will still be being used.


Misconception Number Four: Yoga is too slow to help me lose weight/gain tone etc.


This one is way off the mark, but we have been somewhat trained by the weight loss industry that weight loss, and toning our body is all about hours in the gym and fast high impact exercise. That's simply not true. Yoga can help with weight loss and in particularly toning for a number of reasons. Firstly the exercises, while low impact and performed either statically or slowly - are still exercises. While you use them you are using your muscles, and in many cases you are using muscles and muscle groups that regular exercise programs ignore. The second way that Yoga can be of benefit in a weight loss program is that it will increase your mental strength and allow you to be more disciplined with your food consumption. When it comes down to it excess weight is a result of excess eating and not enough physical exercise to burn off those calories. Have you ever noticed how some people can eat donut after donut and not put on any weight at all? It seems unfair, but it's a natural result of the state of their body. Usually these people will be quite 'sinewy' and this muscle allows them the metabolise food faster. That's the third benefit of Yoga in weight loss, as your muscles develop your body will actually become more efficient at consuming foods and processing them into nutrients and waste.

Vipassana Meditation and It's Benefits

Vipassana meditation is an ancient Indian form of meditation which was re-discovered by Gotama Buddha more than 2500 years ago. Vipassana meditation is all about a self-exploratory journey to enhance a balanced mind that is full of love and compassion. This practice is currently taught in India by Mr. S.N. Goenka who learnt Vipassana meditation from his teacher, Sayagyi U Ba Khin. Mr. Goenka spent fourteen years studying Vipassana techniques and now has many assistant teachers to help him handle the increasing demand for Vipassana teachings.


Simply put, Vipassana means to see things as they really are. Vipassana meditation does not adhere to any particular form of faith. Many people from various religions have had excellent results from Vipassana and no interference with their specific faith occurred. Vipassana meditation is a method to eliminate suffering, increase mental purification and assist the individual to handle life's tensions and stresses in a calm, peaceful manner. In practicing this technique one will observe the changing nature of the body and mind. In realizing the truth about change, suffering and tensions, one will experience the process of purification. Vipassana meditation is taught free of charge over a period of ten days. Participants will live at the training centre during their course. On the last day everyone learns the art of kindness, love and compassion to other living beings.

What Are The Real Benefits Of Meditation?

If you ask different meditators, 'what are the benefits of meditation?' you will receive a wide variety of answers. You see, what one person might see as a benefit of meditation, another might see as an inconvenience that they are prepared to put up with, in order to enjoy a different benefit of meditation.


Let me give you an example. A man and a woman attend the same meditation class. The class consists of three parts. Part one is meditation practice, part two is philosophical discussion and part three is studying teachings of a particular meditation guru. During the class, the man enjoys the meditation practice and gets great benefit from it, loves the philosophical discussions but is not keen and can see no benefit in reading about what the meditation guru has to say.


At the same time, the woman, who attends the same meditation class, she too enjoys the meditation practice and gets great benefit from it, loves reading about what the guru has to say and gets great benefit from that too, but can see no benefit in the philosophical discussions.


So, it helps to know a little about your own preferences for you to get the maximum benefits out of your meditation.
