3 Different Types Of Meditation - Sensational Secrets To Samadhi Revealed

In this article we are going to take a quick look at 3 different types of mediation, and discuss how you can easily and effortlessly incorporate these into your own meditative mindset. The truth of the matter, in my humble opinion, is quite simple: People spend FAR too much time trying to learn the different variations of possible practices to choose, and far too little actually cultivating the practice itself. Concentration:


In the practice of Vipassana, concentration is a skill that must be mastered to move up to the higher levels of the meditative mind. It is also brings on the "blissful" states that a highly relaxed and engaged mind can create. Many peak experiences, mystical visions and far more esoteric experiences can be found in the subtle states of concentration.


Insight:


Again, in the practice of Vipassana, Insight is the next step up for advanced meditators, and frankly speaking, is the goal of the practice. To observe all without passion, prejudice is what this aims to accomplish. You OBSERVE yourself, your thoughts, your actions as a disinterested, but witnessing "other". Insight meditation is more for transformative breakthrough, than it is for bliss, in my experience..:-)


Mantra:


Maybe the easiest way to get started with meditation. Popularized by TM (transcendental meditation), its focus is a word, a saying or an object that can tame the mind into a state of ever-present clarity. My own Kabalistic practice uses a Mantra, and I find this incredibly powerful in transforming and setting my mind for BOTH incredible insights, and concentration as outlined above!

Introduction to Vipassana Meditation

Vipassana is an insight into the true nature of things; seeing things as they are. The path that leads to this insight or realization is awareness or mindfulness. It is exclusively found in no other religion rather than Buddhism. In this meditation, four objects are considered for concentration of mind: body, feelings, thoughts and mental states. Vipassana practice is to use these four objects for the development of concentration, mindfulness and insight or understanding of yourself and the world around you.


It offers the most simple, direct and effective method for training the mind to meet daily tasks and problems and to achieve the highest aim: liberation.


It is safe for all types of characters and a harmless way to train the mind. You can use this method anywhere at anytime, in a busy office or in the quiet of a peaceful night.


The task is to develop awareness or mindfulness. Awareness is paying bare attention to an object. This means you simply observe an object without judging it or thinking about it. Awareness is simply observing of giving close attention without making any judgement of thinking


Target of Vipassana meditation


To achieve insight, so that you can understand the real nature of anything. Physical and mental healing is merely a byproduct of this meditation.


Who will need this? a) People who think they are sufferers because of relational problems with friends, family, colleagues and society; b) People who want to purify themselves and want to start new lives; c) People who want to heal their migraine and similar diseases d) People with mental problems like aggressiveness, lack of confidence, phobia and other stuffs.


Remember one thing! If you are not a sufferer, if you don't want a change, you will not realize the purpose of this meditation. This meditation will give you insight, the cause of suffering will be revealed and mind will be peaceful ever since. If you want to do meditation only for supernatural purposes, Vipassana meditation cannot help you to achieve this. You will need other meditations that build up super concentration.


Requisites of a meditator The five most important requisites for a meditator who wants to practice Vipassana meditation for the achievement of supreme bliss are as follows: a) A qualified teacher b) A firm determination c) Good discipline d) Real honesty e) Persistent diligence


a) A qualified instructor A qualified instructor is a person who has himself practiced Vipassana meditation thoroughly and has acquired a very sound experience of meditation. The meditator should see and relate to the instructor very often about his experience of the meditation. During the interview, the instructor can guide the meditator on the correct method of meditation. If the meditator is discouraged due to lack of progress, the instructor must give him some words of encouragement.


If such instructor is not available, then you must follow the guidance given here.


b) A firm determination Not all meditators have firm determination to achieve insight. With insight, the mental impurities of greed, hatred and ignorance can be uprooted. It is not an easy task to achieve these insights. Only meditators with firm determination will have the ability to attain mental purification.


c) Good discipline For best results, it is recommended that one seeks training at a proper meditation center. From the time the lessons in meditation begin until a meditator leaves the center, he will have practically no time to attend to external activities.


Those who enter into a meditation center usually get up very early in the morning and practice meditation for many hours. This insufficiency of sleep, under normal circumstances, may affect the health of a person. But it does not affect the practicing meditator, because of his mental concentration.


d) Real honesty In describing his experiences to the instructor, the meditator must be truthful. He must tell only the facts, good or bad, which the meditator has definitely experienced. If he does not have mental concentration, or if he loses his confidence in meditation, he must reveal it. There are some meditators who have learnt about meditation either from others or from books. During the interview with the instructor, they may relate these facts as if they are their own. This kind of untruthful dealings must be avoided at any cost. If the meditator does not tell the truth to the instructor, the latter will not be in a position to help him. The meditator must relate only what he has experienced during meditation and not what he imagines he has experienced. He must therefore be able to examine himself mindfully.


e) Persistent diligence As has been pointed above, the task of uprooting desire, hatred, and ignorance is not an easy task. It requires unflagging effort, patience, strong determination, devotion and understanding of the real purpose of the meditation.

Meditation Techniques That Anybody Can Use

Sometimes those of us "regular people" get intimidated about the idea of learning meditation techniques even if they will do us a lot of good. For a lot of us, when we think of meditation techniques, we get an image of a white haired guru sitting on top of a mountain, not of an ordinary run of the mill person like you and I.


But we know that meditation techniques can do even everyday people like us some good. That is because people that you know who use meditation techniques tend to be calmer, more at ease, relaxed and able to handle stress better than those that don't. So it makes you think, maybe there is something to meditation techniques worth looking into.


The good news is that most of those meditation techniques that those "gurus" use are based on some very practical and easy things that we can do, without special equipment and even without a huge amount of special training to get the simple results that a lot of people work hard to achieve. So what we all need is meditation techniques that anybody can use.


Meditation Technique #1 - It's all in the breathing.


It may seem ridiculously easy but much of the fuss about meditation technique is all about breathing. You may have already noticed that as you get more upset or excited or agitated, your breathing becomes shorter and you breathe faster. When that happens, you get less oxygen to your blood, your heart beats faster and your mind, with less blood, gets upset more easily.


So by slowing down your breathing, you can reverse the effect. You take the outcome and make it the cause. Instead of letting your breathing react to how you feel, you control your breathing to change how you feel. It is as simple as taking a few moments and closing your eyes and concentrating on breathing ten or so deep breaths in and out.


As you do so, think about those breaths and nothing else for a moment. Think about the air going in and then going out again. It is as though you are breathing on purpose. The outcome of this meditation technique will be your heart will slow down, your blood will get more oxygen and before long, you are calmer and able to react to things much more serenely. You have taken control over the situation.


Meditation Technique #2 - A moment of peace and quiet.


Life has a way of taking over and running us instead of us running it. Work gets hectic, family life full of joys and challenges and you have days where everything seems to go crazy all at once. There is another simple meditation technique you can use to return control of the day to you.


The gurus who use the advanced meditation techniques know that they should have a place where they can retreat to enter into a more contemplative state of mind. So too, you can start to look around your various environments and select a place where you can get a moment of peace and quiet to do your breathing and gather yourself to get control over the chaos that sometimes your day turns into. While in that quiet place, don't just reflect on how bad things are, slow your breathing, use your ability to reflect and calm yourself and slowly get back to that inner tranquility that will give you control. One meditation technique that people use is to imagine a quiet lake inside their soul. You want that lake to be still, the surface quiet, the air pure and cool, the environment serene and at rest. Then when the world around you is going mad, your tranquil lake is never disturbed.


Meditation Technique #3 - Self Talk


You are what you think. And how you talk to yourself when you are using your meditation techniques can bring you up and calm you if you know what to say. Now don't panic at the idea of talking to yourself. Self-talk is a long established meditation technique that you too can use to get your composure in the midst of your busy world.


Again, as we mentioned above, you have to let that self-talk be positive and reassuring. Remember the good of your life and your feelings when you were in control. There are other key meditation techniques that you can use that fall under the category of self-talk that can calm you and put you in a serene state of mind fairly quickly. Remember a time when you had perfect control and try to become that person. Have a common location that is always serene for you and go to that place in your mind for a moment and gather your thoughts there. Reflect on the things in your life that give you power and self worth. Let those things talk to you. Slowly this positive self-talk can do its magic and lift you back to a stable place and give you peace.


Now this is not to say that formal meditation techniques are not of value. They certainly are. As you take advantage of these down to earth meditation techniques we have talked about here today, you will start to feel the benefits in how you sleep, how you react to stress and even in your health.


If you enjoy those benefits, then you are on your way to a lifetime of meditation. Then you can start to look into some more formalized meditation techniques that will take the simple steps and take you to the next level. Who knows, maybe one of these days you will be that white haired guru on the mountaintop. I bet the view is great from up there.

How To Find Yoga Classes

Maybe you want to try yoga out. Maybe you practiced it before and want to start again. If you want to do yoga, you probably want to find a yoga class. You can use the following methods to find a local yoga class.


Local Gym - In addition to their weight rooms and cardio machines, many gyms offer a large assortment of fitness classes. Some gyms offer brochures that list and describe all of their different classes. Nonetheless, you can more easily find out whether or not a local gym offers any yoga classes simply by calling them and asking. When you call, remember to ask for the price. Try calling more than one gym and writing down the different prices and other details. That way you can choose the best class for you. You can usually find a whole bunch of gyms in any given community, so you most likely can find a few that have yoga classes.


Yoga Studio - Yoga studios are basically places dedicated to practicing yoga. They are to yoga practice what a martial arts studio is to martial arts. Depending on where you live, you may not be able to find a yoga studio nearby. Even if you find one or more, they may not meet your budget or your needs.


Craigslist - You can read and post local classified ads on craigslist for free. If you do not see anything on there about yoga classes, post a classified ad asking about yoga classes in your neighborhood. You can also use this method to find a yoga partner, but be very careful meeting anyone from the internet. Craiglist lets you remain anonymous when posting ads.


Ask Your Friends - If you know other people who practice yoga, ask them where they practice yoga. This will not only help you find places that offer classes, but it will also let you get immediate first-hand information about those places. You can ask the person if they recommend the classes. You can also ask friends and other people you know about yoga classes. Even if they do not practice yoga, they may happen to know of local places that offer yoga classes.


Before looking for yoga classes, you want to figure out what you want out of the classes. Figure out how much you are willing to spend. Also, figure out what type of class you want. For example, do you want one that focuses on the spiritual aspects of yoga, or do you simply want an exercise class?


Some gyms and studios may want you to sign up for a long-running class and pay upfront. Avoid doing this unless you have tried the class out, especially if you are new to yoga. You do not want to pay hundreds of dollars for months of yoga classes only to find out that you do not like yoga or the class.


You can also start practicing yoga by getting a yoga video. A video would allow you to practice yoga at home.
